Design Strategist and User Researcher

About

Hello there, you can call me Jo.

I’m a design strategist and user researcher.

I grew up in South Florida where I was encouraged to pursue my creative passions, including producing my own newsletter and creating art around my Chinese American identity. This eventually led to my interest in global design and research. While at Rice University’s architecture program, I worked and traveled to multiple cities around the world, such as Paris, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, and so many more European cities.

After completing a six year architecture program, I realized that buildings are not the answer to every solution, so I pivoted to work for Continuum, a global design innovation consultancy, where I became a design strategist & researcher to solve customer experience challenges. One of my favorite projects that I led and brought to life was for Jamba (Juice), which involved reimagining the brand’s menu, service, digital, and physical customer experience.

I’m also passionate about diving into issues social issues. I led a pro-bono collaboration called Project Joy, with my sister, Dr. Eva Luo at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s Obstetrics & Gynecology Department to understand prenatal care in the Boston community.

Now, I am based in Brooklyn, where I am surrounded by inspiring people and spaces. I continue to collaborate with all types of individuals and organizations who are looking to learn more about their customers, design product and service strategies and concepts, and build physical & digital experiences.
